Strength Training can make you a better cyclistStrength Training for Cyclists

We’ve talked about strength training before, but this time around we brought in professional cycling coach Taylor Thomas from Thomas Endurance Coaching in order to get additional information out to our listeners.

Becoming a better cyclist includes many things, and strength training off the bike is a great way to improve your performance when you’re on it.  Taylor shares with us his knowledge on the subject and tells us how to get the most out of your training time.

Oh, and we almost get Victor to do some burpees for us on air.

In this episode we discuss:

Why does strength training matter?

  • Why does core work matter for cyclists?
  • Why does body weight resistance work matter, kinesthetic workouts (box jumps, etc) for cyclists.
  • Why does weight training matter for cyclists?

How to implement strength training:

  • Where to start? What is most important
  • How often should you be doing strength training and what kind?
  • Do you need to go to a gym?

Getting serious about strength

  • How to use strength training to control your weight (both increase and decrease)

  1. I resonate with the contents within this show. I listened to it after I had JUST put together my next Session for some of my members on the Wattbike (indoor training)., funny enough I am including a 15 min element of ‘strength training’ with my 60 min session. I am always encouraging others to see the BIGGER picture. I know so many people who come to me ONLY want to do the ‘hard core’ on the bike. Fortunately I encourage my members to take part in an 8 week Beginners Course. During this period I ‘educate’ them to take a ‘holistic’ approach with not just cycling but fitness in general. I appreaciate listening and learning from you guys and those you have on the show. Thank you for ALL you are doing it is BRILLIANT. CHEERS, HAPPY CHIRISTMAS AND MAY YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES BE TRULY WELL BLESSED IN 2017 🙂
